Remember that heat inside a vehicle can rapidly rise; with majority of the temperature rising within the first 15-30 minutes. Leaving a pet inside of a vehicle with the windows open slightly doesn't significantly slow the heating process, or decrease the maximum temperature attained.
On a warm sunny day windows collect light, trapping heat inside the vehicle which elevates the temperature inside to dangerous levels. On an 85 degree day, the inside of a vehicle with the windows opened slightly can reach 102 degrees within 10 minutes and in about 30 minutes the temperature can reach 120 degrees. If a pet's body temperature reaches 110 degrees or more they are in danger of heatstroke.
Remember on hot days; if you must run an errand or go to the doctor PLEASE leave your pets at home.
