The Cleveland Police Department wanted to advise citizens or anyone visiting that it was prohibited to sale, discharge, or possess fireworks inside the city limits. “It’s unlawful for any person to possess, store, offer for sale, sell at retail, use, or explode any fireworks with-in the city limits of Cleveland without a permit”. With July 4th “Independence Day” approaching people tend to discharge fireworks to celebrate the holiday. Each year across the nation many hospital emergency rooms report incidents where people suffered injuries due to fireworks. In 2012 consumer fireworks caused nearly 9,000 injuries according to NFPA- National Fire Prevention Association reports. Violators who choose to ignore this warning create a higher risk of loss of property, and life. CPD officers will be out in force, and anyone caught in possession of fireworks will be issued a citation and the fireworks will be seized. Anyone found guilty of a minor fireworks violation can be fined up to $500.00. The City of Cleveland enforces rules set forth by “Standard Fire Prevention Code © 1994”.
